The 8 best low-cost gyms in London 2022: Under 30 Pounds

Once again March has arrived, which for many of us means hitting the gym again and trying to get our fitness game back…

But, sky-high prices and difficult-to-get-out-of contracts can be off-putting, so many of us opt out and prefer to go running or cycling in the great outdoors instead. Fortunately for us, London isn't solely comprised of exclusive, members-only gyms for the wealthy. We've compiled a list of some of the best cheap gym memberships in London for 2022, some of which include free trials and most of which have no joining fees! Win, win, win.

1. The Gym

The Gym is one of the author's favorites – and with good reason. It's open 24 hours a day, has monthly memberships starting at £19.99 (and even less elsewhere in the country) and offers free personal training classes such as abs blast, legs, bums and tums, and body conditioning. The chain currently has 60 locations in London, with more planned to open shortly, and is currently offering a no-joining fee offer with 50% off your first month's membership at select gyms.

2. Pure Gym

Pure Gym, another 24-hour gym, gives you the option of working out at one of 68 different gyms in London. They're also currently offering no joining fees at select gyms, and some London chains are offering memberships for as little as £25 per month with no contract, allowing you to cancel or freeze your account at any time. Students receive a 10% discount for the first six months, and a 30% discount if they choose a fixed-term membership package – we always look out for our students in this city. Along with friendly personal trainers, there are a variety of classes to choose from, as well as an app with over 600 workouts and individualized training plans.

3. easyGym Camberwell

If you live south of the river and near SE5, this is likely one of the cheapest gym memberships available. This friendly spot, located just off Camberwell Green, offers flexible memberships, high-quality equipment, free inductions, and a variety of motivational group classes and workouts. This is a no-frills spot, much like its namesake airline, but the prices are hard to beat. They're currently offering a week-long trial for £1 – yes, you read that correctly – and a one-day pass for £9.99 for the entire day. Other membership options include off-peak, which allows you to use the gym from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for £14.99, and regular passes, which cost less than £30 and have no joining fees. There are options for those who live further out.

4. Fitness4Less

This budget-friendly spot, which has three London locations – in Southwark, Cambridge Heath, and Canning Town – is a great option if you're looking for one of the best cheap gym memberships in the capital. Fitness4Less offers friendly, knowledgeable staff, quality equipment, and a variety of classes, including box hit, MMA fitness, indoor cycling, and even flow and restore yoga, which is suitable for both beginners and those who already know the ropes. They also offer a variety of membership options, ranging from weekend passes (around £18) and day passes (around £12) to flexible monthly passes (around £29.99).

5.  Fitness First

Fitness First is slightly more expensive than the other gyms on this list, but it's still a great option if you're looking to join a new gym. In their 35 London gyms, they offer a variety of classes ranging from Zumba and body attack spin to tai chi, pilates, and spinning. This popular chain offers state-of-the-art equipment, including cross-trainers, assault bikes, rowers, steppers, and treadmills in their cardio zone, as well as free-weights with dumbbells, barbells, and various benches in their strength-training area.

6. Muscleworks

Muscleworks, which was founded in Bethnal Green in 1988 by bodybuilder Savvas Kyriacou, does exactly what it says on the tin. Listen up, aspiring bodybuilders: this is one of London's best cheap gym memberships. If you're looking to improve your strength training, this is the place to go. There are twelve different personal trainers on hand to provide you with all the assistance you require. The Bethnal Green location is open 24/7, seven days a week, with memberships starting at just £29 per month.

7. Energie Fitness

Boom Cycle is the place to go if you're having trouble staying motivated and think fighting over gym equipment is the worst thing you've ever done. The team here is all about putting the fun factor into getting your sweat on, so it's less gym and more full-on party. This is London's ultimate 'party on a bike' experience, complete with pumping music, bright, flashing lights, and even confetti (yes, really). There are five different studios to choose from in Holborn, Waterloo, Battersea, Hammersmith, and Monument, and friendly instructors will be on hand to guide, encourage, and push you to achieve your desired goals, whatever they may be.

8. Better Health

Greenwich Leisure Ltd (or GLL as they are otherwise known) is a non-profit charitable organization that works in partnership with over 250 sports and leisure facilities. They were founded in 1993 under the consumer-brand name 'Better.' Founded in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, they have since expanded throughout London and beyond, partnering with local leisure centers, gyms, and swimming pools to offer low-cost gym memberships to those looking to improve their fitness. Memberships start at around £35 per month, with access to gyms, pools, health suites, various fitness classes, and even tennis and racquet courses available for around £60.
